The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape expresses concern over the number of missing persons cases reported across the province

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape expresses concern over the number of missing persons cases reported across the province. The SAPS appeals to members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any person who is reported missing to their nearest police station to enable swift investigations and efforts to locate them.
The investigation of missing persons is a priority for SAPS, and the public is reminded that there is no waiting period to report a missing person and the immediate response by the SAPS can save a life.
The following vital steps must be followed when reporting a missing person:
- Report the missing person at your nearest police station immediately,
- If possible, provide a recent photograph of the missing person,
- Give an account of the missing person’s last whereabouts as well as a detailed description of the clothes the person was last seen wearing,
- Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form. This safeguards the SAPS from false reports and indemnifies the SAPS to distribute the photograph of the missing person,
- Obtain the investigating officer’s contact details and keep him/her informed of any additional information,
- If a missing person is found or returns voluntarily, inform the investigating officer immediately.
The SAPS reiterates its commitment to investigating all reported missing persons cases. Community cooperation remains vital in assisting police efforts.
