The South African National Defence Force committed to safeguarding South Africa’s borders under Operation CORONA

Following the successful stealth repositioning of forces between 4 Artillery Regiment and 10 South African Infantry Battalion in Musina, under Operation CORONA, the incoming battalion has hit the ground running.

10 South African Infantry Battalion immediately commenced a series of day and night operations in the Musina area of operations, along the Limpopo River bordering Zimbabwe.

The battalion conducted several area domination operations and successfully intercepted various goods being smuggled illegally between South Africa and Zimbabwe.

In one incident, members of 10 South African Infantry Battalion intercepted a white Toyota Cross valued at R570 000.00. The vehicle was reported stolen in Witbank and was fitted with cloned Limpopo registration plates.

In a separate incident, the battalion intercepted a consignment of illicit goods that included 78 kg of dagga intended to be smuggled into South Africa. The dagga has an estimated street value of R473 000.00.

Other confiscated items include:

- 399 × 100 ml bottles of Bronclear cough syrup and 48 × 100 ml bottles of Still Pain cough syrup, with a combined value of R15 141.00
- 28 cartons of Express Royal cigarettes valued at R12 234.00
- More than 80 litres of petrol valued at R14 000.00
- Chibuku beer valued at R120.00

During night operations, several vehicles were caught in the act of transporting goods intended to be smuggled illegally from South Africa into the neighbouring country.

The operations form part of the South African National Defence Force’s continued commitment to safeguarding South Africa’s borders under Operation CORONA.
