Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy is leading a Level Crossing Safety campaign at the Witbank Level Crossing in Emalahleni.

Level crossing safety requires complete obedience to signals, signs, and active warnings because heavy trains cannot stop quickly

Essential Safety Rules

Slow down and turn off your car radio to look and listen for approaching trains.

Expect a train at any time and from either direction on any track.

Never stop or queue your vehicle on the railway tracks; leave a safety gap of at least 5 meters.

Wait until the barrier arms are fully raised and lights stop flashing before moving across.

Do not race a train or try to cross when lights or gates are active.
