Vehicle Catches Fire: Cornubia – KZN
A family of (3) escaped injury after their white Volkswagen Jetta caught fire on the R102 near the Cornubia off-ramp – KZN this afternoon (Sunday 04/10/2026).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call reporting the incident at approximately 14:38. Reaction Officers arrived on scene with the eThekwini Fire Department, who extinguished the blaze.
The driver explained that he was travelling with his wife and daughter to shop in Cornubia – KZN when he noticed smoke emanating from the engine bay as he approached the off-ramp. He immediately pulled into the emergency lane and called for assistance.
The family was visibly traumatised but sustained no injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established
