Suspect in cellular phone theft apprehended at Sumerstrand Beach
At approximately 06:45 on Sunday morning, a Fidelity ADT officer was conducting routine patrols along the Summerstrand beachfront when two members of the public approached him while pursuing a suspect.
They reported that the suspect had allegedly robbed two 15-year-old minors of a Samsung cell phone.
The officer immediately stepped in and called for backup. Additional officers responded, and together they successfully apprehended the suspect.
The suspect reportedly admitted to the robbery and indicated that an accomplice had fled the scene with the stolen cell phone.
SAPS was notified immediately, and the suspect was handed over to Humewood SAPS for further investigation. The two minors were also escorted to the police station to provide official statements.
