Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Nakedi Kekana, has cautioned all road users ahead of expected high traffic volumes from Thursday, 25 September to Monday, 29 September 2026.
This follows the start of the school holidays today and two major events in the province: the St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Annual Pilgrimage/Consecration at Moria, and the Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival in Vhembe.
According to the Joint Operation Command, the church is 100% open, meaning a full influx of private vehicles, minibuses and buses is expected from Thursday and Friday. Buses will be released on Monday morning.
"We welcome all pilgrims and festival-goers to Limpopo. I urge every road user to exercise extreme caution, plan trips early and rest every two hours," said MEC Kekana.
She made a special appeal to public transport operators not to overload, overcharge or drive tired, and to ensure vehicles are roadworthy with valid licences and PDPs.
Provincial Traffic, SAPS and Municipal Traffic will be fully deployed on the N1 North and South, R101, N11, R71, R81, R524, R523, P277/1 and all roads leading to Moria and the Royal Heritage Festival, focusing on speeding, drunk driving, reckless overtaking and pedestrian safety.
