Fatal two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Pretoria Main Road and Maxwell Drive in Waterfall, Midrand
Law Enforcement personnel, alongside emergency services, attended to a severe two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Pretoria Main Road and Maxwell Drive in Waterfall, Midrand.
The accident involves a minibus taxi and a Mercedes-Benz sedan. Following the impact of the crash, the minibus taxi allegedly overturned and caught fire.
Regrettably, five (5) fatalities have been confirmed on scene from the minibus taxi. Fatalities or injuries regarding the occupant(s) of the Mercedes-Benz sedan are yet to be confirmed as emergency responders actively work on site.
The intersection of Pretoria Main Road and Maxwell Drive has been completely closed off in all directions. Major delays are expected throughout the Midrand and Waterfall areas during peak traffic hours.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the affected area entirely and use the following alternative routes:
• N1 Freeway: Use the N1 North/South via Allandale Road to bypass the intersection.
• R55: Diversions via R55 for north-south travel between Waterfall, Kyalami, and Centurion.
• K101 / Old Pretoria Road Bypass: Divert via Allandale Road or Le Roux Avenue to reconnect away from the incident perimeter.
Please exercise extreme caution, reduce your speed on approach to diversions, and follow all instructions given by law enforcement personnel on scene. Further updates will be issued as soon as the road is cleared and safe for public use.
