Suspect arrested for the theft of fuel

A 41-year-old man is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court today, 18 September 2026, on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
On Wednesday, 16 September 2026, Sasolburg Highway Patrol members were conducting Shanela II operational duties when they received information regarding a white Toyota Hilux bakkie allegedly involved in the theft of fuel in Carltonville.
The members operationalised the information and conducted a way-lay operation. The suspected vehicle was spotted traveling on the R59, being escorted by another Toyota Hilux. The members stopped both vehicles. The driver of the escort vehicle abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bushes.
A search of both vehicles was conducted. The first vehicle was found loaded with approximately 1 000 litres of diesel, while the second vehicle was found loaded with approximately 2 000 litres of diesel. The recovered diesel is estimated to have a value of R105 000-00.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the escort vehicle is allegedly wanted in Kroonstad in connection with a case of Theft of fuel. Police investigations continue.
