Poor visibility, wet and flooded roads have been cited as main causes of many accidents reported in various parts of KwaZulu-Natal, including the N2 and the N3

Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: As prolonged rainfall continues to wreak havoc in KwaZulu-Natal, I received a report at 4am this morning detailing the work of dedicated teams from Road Traffic Inspectorate and Human Settlements.

Poor visibility,  wet and flooded roads have been cited as main causes of many accidents reported in various parts of KwaZulu-Natal, including the N2 and the N3. 

We wish to send our deepest condolences to the families of 4 people who died in separate horrific accidents involving trucks.

One accident occurred on the N2 in Umkuze, under Umkhanyakude District, involving a truck and a light motor vehicle. 

Two people died in that accident, and an infant was seriously injured.

Two people also died, and another two were seriously injured in another accident that occurred on R66, approximately 5 kilometers past RTI Offices in Gingindlovu towards Eshowe. 

According to a preliminary report from RTI, it is alleged that a steering of a truck with a mounted drilling machine locked, while it was in motion, causing it to veer off its lane.

Critically, teams from human settlements will this morning consolidate reports from various roving teams who have been monitoring high-risk areas, especially human settlements located along flood-prone areas.
