Tshwane Metro Police Department has deployed its members in large numbers across key points in Tshwane during this Easter weekend

As we navigate through the Easter weekend, the TMPD has intensified its efforts to keep our roads safe. Our officers are deployed in large numbers at key points across Tshwane, focusing on preventing dangerous behaviour that threatens the lives of innocent road users.

During these strategic planned operations, the TMPD Pedestrian Unit arrested 32 pedestrians who were found on highways, particularly N1 and N4. Being found on the highways is a punishable offence, and we encourage pedestrians to use designated crossing points and avoid highways as it poses significant danger to themselves and motorists.

The Public Transport Unit also impounded numerous minibuses for failing to comply with the National Land Transport Act (NLTA) guidelines, ensuring that public transport operators meet safety and legal standards to safeguard passengers and other road users, especially during this period of long-distance trips.

Furthermore, the Overload Control Unit (OCU) directed over 100 vehicles to TMPD Mobile Vehicle Testing Service (MVTS) and to the TMPD Weighbridges in Akasia and Centurion. The majority of these vehicles were found to be unroadworthy and in non-compliance with load regulations. It is important to note that overloading can lead to serious incidents, as it can result in brake failure and loss of control.

The TMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro, urges all road users to adhere to traffic laws and to ensure safety in the City of Tshwane. She also encourages the TMPD officers to continue working tirelessly to maintain law and order and protect the citizens with diligence, not only during Easter but throughout the year.
