Injured visitor flown from Lion's Head summit

Dedicated teams of professionals and volunteers from Wilderness Search And Rescue WSAR Western Cape responded to Lion's Head on Monday morning after receiving reports that a visiting hiker had fallen and injured himself on the popular trail.

The 48-year-old Polish visitor had just begun making his way down the trail from the summit towards the top ladder when he suddenly slipped and fell, injuring his leg.

Unable to continue an urgent call was made the emergency number – 021 937 0300.

A small team on board the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter was flown to scene and hoisted down to a point close to the injured hiker.

He was treated by a Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedic before being helped into a rescue harness and hoisted up into the helicopter.

He was flown to a nearby landing zone and carried to a waiting ambulance.

The incident was concluded at 12h55 on Monday afternoon.

We wish him a speedy recovery.
