Potchefstroom motorists felt the pinch of the law

As part of the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme implementation in the JB Marks Municipality,  law enforcement officers ensured road user compliance.

A strengthened law enforcement operation was held on the N12 outside Potchefstroom and internal routes.

The operation started in the early hours, where Provincial Traffic Officers inspected learner transport operators. While checking the status of roadworthiness on buses and vehicles that are transporting learners to schools, officers issued traffic fines to defaulting operators.

About 09 taxis found transporting learners without Proffesiomal Driving Permit (PrDP), 06 drivers without driving licenses, 06 taxis without operating permits  and 04 buses contracted by the department operating without permits.

On the N12 more than 157 vehicles were stopped, searched and fines were issued for different defaults such as worn-out tyres, driving without licenses,  vehicles without discs and number plates.

Parallel to the operation, officials from the Civillian Secretariat for Police conducted an oversight visit to Ventersdorp, Potchefstroom and Ikageng police stations respectively.

Meanwhile, officials from the Directorate Crime Prevention Partnerships also visited two schools and conducted school safety awareness campaign.
