Notice:

*Breath alcohol detectors are classified as Medical Devices by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Manufacturers must obtain premarketing clearance from the FDA prior to selling such devices in the United States. The process of submitting what is referred to as a 510(k) to the FDA is complex, and results in an extensive review of the safety and effectiveness of the product. Selling a personal breath alcohol detector without FDA market clearance is a violation of the law.

Important Note: Please ensure that you wait at least 20 minutes after your last drink of alcohol before blowing into this breathalyser to ensure accurate results.

Step one: BREAK

Give the middle section of your Breathscan® a squeeze or snap until you feel the inner glass casing break. It’s time to take a deep breath...

Step two: BLOW

Hold your Breathscan® vertically, with the green band at the top and blow hard into it for 12 seconds without stopping, towards the ground. Shake the tube from side to side.

ALWAYS WAIT 15 -20 MINS BEFORE TESTING...

After your last alcoholic drink. If you are unable to wait, rinse your mouth with water before taking the test.

A SECOND OPINION

You’ve been drinking, so you may need a friend to help you read your result.

WELL LIT?

The test may be hard to read in dim lighting or under certain types of street light.

Step three: TAP

Tap the base of the Breathscan® 3 times on a flat, hard surface so that the powder drops to the bottom. Stand the Breathscan® up vertically with the powder at the bottom, on a flat surface.

Step four: READ...

Positive Result/On or Over legal limit: Powder changes colour from YELLOW to GREEN/AQUA  Result/Under legal limit: Powder remains YELLOW.

Warnings & Precautions

  • Breathscan® results do not supersede official law enforcement checks or blood tests.
  • Not following these instructions will produce unreliable results.
  • Do not use if the inner glass casing is broken or cracked, or the crystals are not yellow.
  • Do not swallow the contents. Breathscan® contains small amounts of potassium dichromate. If swallowed, seek medical assistance.
  • Do not immerse your Breathscan® in liquid.
  • It may be hard to read under street lights or in dim lighting. Breathscan® results are best read under white light or indirect sunlight.
  • Breathscan® results should not be interpreted by anyone who is colour-blind or visually impaired.
  • Breathscan® results should not be interpreted by anyone with impaired judgement because of alcohol or any other substance.
  • Keep Breathscan® out of reach of children and animals.
  • Alcohol impairs judgment.
  • Do not drink and drive.

Other Important Information

  • Breathscan® is a single-use disposable breath test for alcohol detection. It uses indicator chemistry and is set to change colour at or above a specific level of breath alcohol as indicated on your Breathscan®.
  • Your Breathscan® test result remains stable for 60 minutes. Avoid re-exposure to alcohol vapours.
  • Blood alcohol concentration can continue to rise for up to two hours after your last drink. Care should still be taken during this period, even if a negative blood alcohol concentration is indicated.
  • It can take 10 hours or more for your blood alcohol level to return to zero after a positive blood alcohol concentration is indicated. In such cases, a further test should be carried out later in the day, or the following morning.
  • Your Breathscan® should not be relied upon to confirm your ability to drive. Driving while under the influence of alcohol increases the risks and dangers to yourself and others.
  • The ‘use-by date’ and lot number are printed on your Breathscan® and packaging.
  • Store between -15 and 50°C.
  • Avoid prolonged storage in sunlight.
  • Your Breathscan® should be disposed of in a bin after use.
