Crossing the barrier line

Question

Are there any scaenarios where it is legal to cross a barrier line? Typically what may one do when caught behind a slow moving truck (30 to 40 kph) on a single lane road with a solid barrier line, but where visibility is good and no oncoming traffic is present?

Answer

Barrier Line (Longitudinal Regulatory Markings) – When one is caught behind a slow moving truck on a single lane road, unfortunately one cannot overtake this vehicle.
The scenario when one can overtake is when

1. To gain access to land on the opposite side of the barrier line.
2. To gain direct access from land to a portion of the public road.
3. To pass any stationary obstruction in the roadway, if it is safe to do so.
