Suspects arrested for possession of twenty-three (23) sheep suspected to be stolen and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

Two male suspects from Rasmeni locality in Ngcobo, aged 35 and 36 years, were arrested on Wednesday, 04 March 2026, at about 08:00 by Mthatha Public Order Police (POP) members in Ncise locality, Mthatha, for possession of twenty-three (23) sheep suspected to be stolen and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.
Mthatha POP members operationalised after they received information about a vehicle transporting suspected stolen sheep and spotted an Isuzu bakkie matching the description given in Ncise locality. On searching the suspects, the 35-year-old was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol (with an erased serial number) and fourteen live rounds of ammunition. Both men had no documentary proof of purchase and transportation of the sheep. Preliminary investigations revealed that the sheep were allegedly stolen from farms in Ngcobo and were to be sold in Mthatha Link locality.
The bakkie has been impounded by police as it was used in the commission of a crime, while the firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.
The duo is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 06 March 2026, both charged with possession of suspected stolen sheep, with an additional charge of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition for the 35-year-old suspect.
