Impoundment of 11 Scholar Transport Vehicles in Ladanna, Polokwane

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirms that 11 scholar transport vehicles were impounded today in Ladanna, Polokwane during a targeted law enforcement operation conducted by the Public Transport Unit.
The vehicles were found to be operating in contravention of transport legislation, including non-compliance with permit conditions, roadworthiness requirements and safety regulations governing the transportation of learners. Such conduct places the lives of children at serious risk and undermines government’s commitment to learner safety.
The Department wishes to state in the strongest terms that lawlessness in the scholar transport sector will not be tolerated. The safety of learners remains a non-negotiable priority, and operators who choose to flout the law will face decisive consequences, including vehicle impoundment, fines and possible criminal prosecution.
This operation forms part of an ongoing, province-wide law enforcement programme aimed at restoring order, discipline and compliance within the scholar transport industry. Similar operations are continuing across Limpopo to ensure that all vehicles transporting learners are safe, roadworthy and legally permitted.
The Department commends the Public Transport Unit and traffic law enforcement officials for their vigilance, professionalism and commitment to protecting young learners.
Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that the transport services they use for their children are legally registered and compliant with all safety requirements.
Scholar transport operators are further warned to immediately regularise their operations and adhere strictly to the law. Failure to do so will result in firm action by authorities.
The Department remains resolute in its mission to create safer roads and to protect the lives of learners who depend on scholar transport services daily.
We continue to appeal to the public to report any suspicious or unsafe vehicles to the authorities on *0800 006 694*
