BAIC South Africa Hands Over 20 Vehicles to DIRCO for G20 Summit Support.

BAIC South Africa has officially handed over a fleet of 20 premium SUVs to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) to support transport and logistics operations during the G20 Summit hosted in South Africa.

The fleet, comprising the BAIC X55 Plus and the newly launched B30 SUV, will be used to facilitate the movement of delegates and officials attending the event. The partnership reflects BAIC’s growing contribution to South Africa’s mobility landscape and its continued collaboration with national stakeholders in advancing efficient, reliable, and modern transport solutions.

During the handover ceremony in Pretoria, the event reaffirmed BAIC’s commitment to supporting South Africa’s role on the global stage. The occasion highlighted the brand’s pride in contributing to such a significant international event, providing vehicles that reflect a blend of innovation, comfort, and confidence suited to both local and global expectations.

LOCALLY BUILT EXCELLENCE - THE B30 TAKES THE LEAD

Among the vehicles presented to DIRCO are several units of the BAIC B30, the brand’s latest SUV new milestone in BAIC’s local manufacturing journey. Assembled alongside the X55 Plus, which has already achieved steady local production at BAIC South Africa’s advanced manufacturing plant in Gqeberha, the B30 further strengthens the brand’s localisation strategy and product diversity.

Developed in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), the Coega facility is one of the largest automotive assembly operations in South Africa. The addition of the B30 to the production line expands BAIC’s local manufacturing footprint, strengthens supply chain resilience, and contributes to job creation and skills development within the Eastern Cape region.

The local assembly of the B30 follows its recent national launch, which marked a new phase in BAIC’s strategy to deepen localisation and deliver vehicles built in South Africa, for South Africa. The move also positions the plant as a potential export hub for the African continent in the coming years.

SUPPORTING A GLOBAL EVENT, STRENGTHENING LOCAL PRIDE

By providing a fleet for the G20 Summit, BAIC demonstrates its ongoing commitment to South Africa’s development and global integration. The B30 and X55 Plus embody the brand’s focus on intelligent design, advanced technology, and proven capability -qualities that make them well suited for high-profile events of this scale.

The collaboration between BAIC South Africa and DIRCO aligns with broader efforts to enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors, showcasing the value of international partnerships that contribute to local industry growth, mobility innovation, and economic participation.
