Man Critically Injured While Pruning Tree: Verulam CBD - KZN

A 28-year-old man was left critically injured after being struck by a falling branch while pruning a tree on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD - KZN today (Friday).
The RUSA Operations Center received an emergency call at approximately 10:16. Reaction Officers arrived to find the unconscious worker wedged between branches several metres above the ground, with colleagues desperately holding onto him to prevent him from falling.
With the assistance of members of the public, Reaction Officers used ropes to safely lower the injured man to the ground. He sustained a severe head injury.
Paramedics from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) and Netcare 911 stabilised him on scene before expediting him to hospital by ambulance.
It was later established that the victim had been pruning a tree behind a property when a branch he had cut swung back and struck him on the head.
