Ekurhuleni District Commissioner lauds successes achieved during weekly Operation Shanela 2 Safer Festive Season Operation

CHLOORKOP - In a concerted efforts to combat Crime and to ensure the safety of the residents in Ekurhuleni District,  Police have apprehended 250 suspects during the latest Operation Shanela 2 Safer festive season operations conducted between 12 and 13 November 2025 across the Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts.

The main operation was Conducted in Crystal Park, led by Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole, whereby 19 illegal immigrants were nabbed, 4 suspects arrested for possession of drugs, 4 for dealing in drugs, 1 for possession of Explosives and 2 for dealing in liquor without license. 

Among the Suspects apprehended, the Detectives arrested 221 across the District while tracing the suspects

Charges range from serious offenses, contact crimes, property crime , violation of immigration Act, and significance seizures of drugs

Illegal mining operation was also conducted in the Crystal park area wherein 4 Illegal immigrants were nabbed, and members managed to seize pendukas, steel pots, and  steel balls.

In parallel to the operation Shanela ll, members of Social Crime Prevention conducted Community Engagement at Cloverdene Shopping Center to engage Community members who visited there for shopping to educate them about Gender based Violence, to avoid online  purchasing,  to keep their pin as a secret, to report suspicious criminal activities and to check with mall Management regarding crimes that are taking place there.

A walkabout was conducted in the Cloverdene shopping center to enhance visibility as well and to prevent crimes that might happen in the shopping center

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has expressed pride in the dedication demonstrated by the law enforcement agencies involved in these operations as well as other stakeholders to ensure that crime is reduced in Ekurhuleni areas
