Hijacking Suspect Arrested: Cornubia – KZN

A 36-year-old man was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) following a hijacking and shooting incident in Cornubia - KZN today (Tuesday).
At approximately 11:09, the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received multiple reports from residents of a Cornubia housing complex regarding gunshots and a hijacking in progress.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived at a tuckshop.
According to a Malawian national at the scene, he and two assistants were delivering stock when they were confronted by three armed men. One suspect produced a firearm while another drew a knife.
Believing the firearm to be a replica, one of the victims attempted to disarm the gunman, who then fired three shots. A second suspect attempted to stab the victim, forcing him to surrender. The suspects then fled in a black Nissan Livina.
The hijacked vehicle was later recovered by a tracking company, abandoned in a nearby sugarcane plantation. Reaction Officers continued to search the area and spotted a man matching the description of one of the suspects in the cane fields.
He was apprehended and positively identified by the victims as one of the men involved in the hijacking.
