Duma ends Stop-and-Go on R34 in Empangeni
After an inspection of the repairs and rehabilitation of R34 – between Empangeni and Nkwalini – Eshowe, the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma announced the following:-
“I have mandated the team and engineers to ensure that there is no Stop and Go on R34 during the festive season.
"The team is tasked with the responsibility of reducing waiting times from an hour to strictly under 15 minutes. In addition, innocent people have lost their lives as a result of trucks transporting coal."
"Consequently, teams of engineers and officials from the permit office are urgently exploring the possibility of redirecting trucks to other routes. We are also going to be strict on the issuing of permits for abnormal load.”
