Multiple Fatalities in R61 Shelly Beach Vehicle Collision

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to a serious vehicle collision on the R61 near Shelly Beach at approximately 10:00 AM on July 1st, 2025. The incident involved a bakkie towing a trailer laden with potatoes and two other vehicles.
The collision resulted in three fatalities, two critical injuries, and two serious injuries. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service paramedics provided immediate on-scene medical care.
Due to the severity of some injuries, an aeromedical helicopter was deployed, requiring the temporary closure of the road.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway by the relevant authorities.
