Diver arrested for bribery after driving against the flow of traffic and while using his cellphone.

Earlier today, at approximately 10:00, Durban Metro Police officers conducting patrols along OR Tambo Parade noticed a vehicle driving against the flow of traffic with the driver on a cellphone. The vehicle was stopped outside the Tourism Information Centre.

Upon interviewing the driver and conducting an inspection, officers prepared to issue a Section 56 summons for several traffic violations. During this process, the driver attempted to offer a bribe of R50 to resolve the matter unlawfully.

The driver was immediately placed under arrest for attempting to bribe a law enforcement officer. The money was booked as evidence in accordance with SAPS procedures.

The suspect was detained at Durban Central SAPS and is currently in custody, free of any injuries. Charges of bribery are being pursued.
Durban Metro Police Service  remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring integrity in all enforcement activities. Bribery is a serious offence and will not be tolerated.
