Law enforcers in the Mpumalanga Province prepared to ensure safety on the province's roads.

As we gear up for the Festive Season, the law enforcers in the Mpumalanga Province are prepared to ensure safety on the province's roads.

Today(01 November 2024), the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison led a multi-disciplinary roadblock on the N4 Middelburg Toll Plaza.

There were other secondary operations at the same time that took place on the N4 in Wonderfontein and N12 near Sundra, both for speed, and a roadblock in Emalahleni on the N4.

The Province is ready for the Festive Season which is usually characterized by high traffic volumes and road crashes.

Today's roadblock was conducted by traffic officers and Road Safety officials from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Transport Inspectorate officers from the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, members of the

South African Police Service (SAPS), traffic officers from Steve Tshwete Local Municipality and officials from the Department of Home Affairs.

Officials from the Department of Health, Disaster Management, Fire Department and Emergency Services also supported the roadblock.

The roadblock saw over 300 vehicles being stopped and checked.  Out of the vehicles stopped, and 75 fines were issued to motorists for different violations. Eight minibus taxis were impounded whilst six vehicles were issued with notices to discontinue.

Over and above this, 139 vehicles were weighed at both the East and West bound Weihbridges in Middelburg. 34 of them were given warning whilst three were fined for overloading.

The Fire Department inspected 17 fire instinguishers.

Meanwhile, 148 passengers and 70 drivers were educated on road safety.
