Suspects arrested for fraud, possession of car breaking implements, and a signal jammer in Sandton
Three male suspects aged between 22 and 48 were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for fraud, possession of car breaking implements, and a signal jammer at Corllet Drive and Oxford Road in Illovo, Sandton.
On Monday 8 August 2022, whilst conducting crime prevention patrols, officers received a call for backup after private security officers had spotted a silver BMW X5 which was used by perpetrators in stealing Toyota Prados, Lexus Suvs, Toyota Fortuners, and Toyota Hilux bakkies in the Sandton area.
The officers responded and the vehicle with three male occupants was stopped.
Upon inspection, officers discovered that the vehicle was affixed with false registration numbers. The vehicle was searched and officers recovered car-breaking implements and a military signal jammer.
All three male suspects were arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station. They will appear in court in due course.
The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound for verification.
