Military helps to recover stolen livestock during cross-border operations in the Eastern Cape
On the 20 May 2022, members of 8 South African Infantry Battalion that is currently deployed in the Belfort area on the Eastern Sector under the command of Lieutenant Tyrone Sauls, received information that there was stolen livestock from one of the farms around the area.
The section under the command of Corporal Mmaphala Willington Semenya was dispatched in cooperation with Buffalo Protection Services. The stolen 22 cattle to the estimated value of R 176 000,00 were found in the vicinity of Belfort Dam. The stock thieves ran away before the soldiers and the Buffalo Protection Services arrived.
Officer Commanding Joint Tactical Headquarters Eastern Cape, Colonel Henry Stephanus Uithaler congratulated members "for safeguarding borders and curbing cross-border stock theft crimes as confirmed by these successes".
