Grandmother Attacks Panga Wielding Suspect With Saucepan: Palmview - KZN
A housebreaking suspect armed with a panga fled the home of a 73-year-old grandmother after the woman threw a pot at him during a home invasion.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was called out to the home in Palmview, Phoenix - KZN at approx 14:20 (Wednesday) by the victim’s daughter who arrived as the suspect was fleeing the home. Reaction Officers searched the area for a male suspect without success. He was described as slender, tall & attired in a blue shirt, blue jeans and a grey beanie. The man was seen carrying a blue nap sack.
According to the victim, the suspect gained entry to the home as her nine (9) year old granddaughter exited the property & locked the gate. The man jumped over the fence and forcefully entered through a kitchen stable door. Upon entering the home he found the grandmother seated in the bedroom. He produced a panga and demanded cash. When the woman screamed for assistance, the man grabbed her handbag and walked to the kitchen searching for valuables. The grandmother followed him, grabbed a heavy saucepan (picture 1) and threw it at the suspect who grabbed an electric kettle and fled the home.
The woman was unharmed.
